Mission Statements
I don’t believe in much, but I believe in good life strategies.
Good life strategies improve lives, no matter what our religious denomination, or lack thereof.
Good life strategies = wise living.
One good life strategy is to adopt a mission.
Name one great person who did not have a mission.
What is a mission?
Think of Lincoln’s mission to free the slaves; Christ’s mission to spread the gospel; Joan of Arc’s mission to save France; Moses’ mission to lead the Israelites out of bondage and to the Promised Land.
According to Laurie Beth Jones, author of “The Path: Creating Your Mission Statement for Work and for Life”, a mission statement is, “in essence, a written-down reason for being – whether for a person or for a company. It is the key to finding your path in life and identifying the mission you choose to follow.”
A mission is passion plus a goal.
Missions employ what Napoleon Hill would call, “singleness of purpose”.
Wo/men with missions live with passion.
If they are not careful, they can also become obsessive and delusional – just saying.
Still, on balance, isn’t living with a mission a better strategy than living without one?
